Architect - Paul Cowley

Paul Cowley is a land planner and designer with over 25 years experience in resort development. He has successfully operated a design/build company with numerous projects throughout the Southeast. Some resort projects to his credit are Sandestin Resort in Destin, Florida, The Sea Palms Golf & Tennis Club and The Hampton Club on Saint Simons Island, Georgia, and The University Club, Columbia, South Carolina.

An avid golfer all his life, he began his golf career as a greens keeper at Pebble Beach in California. Paul draws upon his land planning and construction background to create the routing plan and real estate layout for a golf course community. His experience at Pebble Beach also gives Paul a unique insight into project challenges that very few in the business possess. He leads the design process, including the generation of plans, working with land planners and engineers to obtain permits from all necessary agencies. Then he supervises and coordinates the implementation of design plans with various contractors throughout the construction stage of the project. He will be involved on a consulting basis thereafter to insure a complete grow in to first class condition.

Paul has completed or is currently working on the following golf course construction projects. Six of these projects are collaborative new course construction efforts with Davis Love III’s design company, Love Enterprises and Associates, Inc.

Director of Golf Operations and Sales - Dave Shaver

Truly driven by his interactions with people, Dave joins the team at Orchard Creek Golf Club in 2017, bringing with him an extraordinary level of enthusiasm and expertise as the Assistant Golf Professional.

A lifelong resident of the capital region, Dave’s passion for the game recently led him to Myrtle Beach, SC, where he completed his Associates Degree of Applied Business in Golf Complex Operations and Management from the Golf Academy of America, graduating at the top of his class with a perfect 4.0 GPA. From there (in 2016), Dave returned home and accepted a position as a Teaching Professional and Certified Club Fitter at the Northway 8 Golf Center in Clifton Park, NY.

Dave is also a strong advocate as it relates to the development of Junior Golf, serving as an Assistant Coach for:
–PGA Junior League at Orchard Creek Golf Club (2018-2022)
–Junior Golf Camps provided by the Parks and Recreation Department (Clifton Park, NY, 2016)
–Grand Strand’s First Tee program (Myrtle Beach, SC, 2015-2016)

Golf Course Superintendent (class A) Shaun Moffe

Shaun has been working in the golf industry since he was 19 years old. His first course was the Mark Twain Golf Course which he fell in love with the game and knew this was the career he wanted to pursue. He attended Cobleskill University and graduated in 2005. Shaun received an AS degree and a BA technology in turf grass management. During college he interned at Harbor Links Golf Course in Long Island, NY. After graduation he became assistant at Piping Rock Club in Locust Valley, NY. a top 100 course rated by Golf Digest Magazine. From there he started as an assistant and became Superintendent at Thousand Island Country Club on Wellesley Island, NY. His knowledge of maintaining a championship quality golf course with suburb conditions will bring Orchard Creek to level every player expects and enjoys.

Golf Professional and Director of Instruction - Jack Mattfeld

Jack grew up in Voorheesville, New York and began playing golf at a young age. He joined the staff at Orchard Creek Golf Club in 2019 while in high school. Under the guidance of Jeff Betti, he discovered a passion for teaching golf and working at the course. Now a student at Binghamton University, Jack could not be more excited to remain a part of the team at Orchard Creek. He enjoys the opportunity to work with golfers and be around the sport.

At Orchard Creek, Jack has enjoyed teaching the PGA Junior League (2020-2022) and the Orchard Creek Ladies Clinics (2020-present), as well as individual lessons. Currently, he is the Head Coach for the Orchard Creek Junior League, which is run in-house. He has found these opportunities fruitful in the development of himself as a teaching professional and learned a lot in the process.

As it relates to instruction, Jack is committed to helping you find success in your golf game. His passion for growing the game of golf shows in his love of teaching and focus on helping golfers enjoy the game and play better golf. He is excited to help you take the next step in your game and wants everyone to enjoy themselves on the golf course.
