To Our Customers, Friends, Business Partners:

Orchard Creek Golf Club is seeking your assistance, we need your help as we mount objection to a planned solar installation on property adjoining the golf course. This installation, if allowed to proceed, will negatively impact your golf, dining and event experience at Orchard Creek.

The proposal currently before the Town of Guilderland is for a solar array on the Muia property which borders the golf course along the 16th tee box, fairway and green. This solar array, as proposed, is visible from the majority of holes on the back nine, and also impacts many holes on the front nine. To help visualize where this solar project may be placed, picture yourself on the 15th tee box – as you look to the green and beyond to the Helderbergs, with a view framed by a golden field, imagine that field fully covered in solar panels.

Orchard Creek Golf Course was designed by Paul Cowley, an Altamont native; With Paul’s expertise and artistic perspective, the course was situated to maximize the view of the Helderberg Mountains. With construction of the proposed solar project, half of the holes on the course will now have a solar array, an industrial installation, distracting and disrupting those gorgeous views. Orchard Creek’s wedding venue, and even portions of the dining patio will have solar installations in the site-lines. Because of the slope and contours of the property, there is no way to screen the view of the industrial scale solar array from Orchard Creek and from the road as you approach Altamont from the east.

Since last Fall we have been attending Planning Board meetings to voice our objection to the placement of this project; in an effort to minimize the visual and economic impact of this project we have offered to swap property, placing the project on a parcel that is not visible from the golf course or from the approach to Altamont via Dunnsville Road. Additionally, many community members have been supportive in opposing this project.

If you feel, as we do, that this project would be detrimental to Orchard Creek, to adjoining landowners and homeowners, and to the aesthetics of Western Guilderland we ask that you make your voices heard.

To that end, we have included contact information for town officials – let them know you oppose this project! We have also included a link to the Town of Guilderland website where you can sign up to receive alerts for meetings where this project will be discussed and reviewed – your presence at those meetings would send a clear message!

Thank you for taking the time to consider our request, we value our customers and associates and appreciate any support you can offer.
